Please join us for a three-part virtual workshop on conducting internal investigations presented by Joel Locke, Esq. of Allison MacKenzie, Ltd.

This workshop will provide an in-depth, interactive, educational opportunity to ensure:

  • Complaints are properly received;
  • The rights of all involved parties are protected;
  • Complaints are fairly and impartially investigated; and
  • Investigation reports are clear and comprehensive.

Participants will work through a single case study from receipt of the complaint to issuance of the report over the course of three 90-minute sessions, as follow:

Part I: The Complaint (April 11, 2023):

This session will cover:

  • Receiving the complaint;
  • Determining whether investigation should be conducted internally by staff or by a third-party investigator;
  • Identifying the potential policy violation(s) and appropriate respondents; and
  • Preparing a Notice of Investigation.

Part II: The Investigation (April 18, 2023)

This session will cover:

  • Preparing for and conducting the initial interviews of the complainant(s) and respondent(s);
  • Identifying additional witnesses that will offer first-hand knowledge of the facts of the allegation;
  • Dealing with issues of confidentiality and witness statements; and
  • Developing and practicing questioning techniques for the witnesses.

Part III: The Findings (April 25, 2023)

This session will cover:

  • Distilling all of the information and witness statements into a collection of undisputed material facts;
  • Identifying disputed material facts and the strength and reliability of any evidence supporting either side of those facts;
  • Applying the applicable facts to the alleged violations of each policy; and
  • Drafting a report with findings of Sustained/Not Sustained/Unfounded as to each allegation

Note: Participants must attend all three sessions.
