Registration Opens 9/10/2025 at 9am.

This program assists graduates of the original Essential Management Skills in the Public Sector Certificate Program to apply the skills learned.  In this program, participants will review the major employment laws and legal updates.  Participants will also work through a case study where they will act as the “Manager” of the department and determine how to proceed at various stages. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their decisions as well as the consequences of their actions or inactions. This program may be provided virtually or in-person. The virtual version of the program is four three-hour sessions, and the inperson version is two six-hour sessions. Completion of all parts is required to earn a certificate.

By the end of this certificate program, participants will be able to:

• Recognize best leadership practices to use among peers.
• Demonstrate situational leadership by applying the most appropriate leadership style to the situation at hand.
• Analyze when and how tasks should be delegated to employees.
• Utilize job descriptions as tools in various management scenarios.
• Consider legal obligations and personnel policies as well as management responsibilities and commonsense approaches.
• Identify the proper steps to take in various scenarios.
• Maintain appropriate documentation.
• Practice managing employee performance effectively.
