Who Should Attend:
School Safety Specialists, District and School Level Administrators to include Superintendents, Principals, and Assistant Principals, School Board Members, School District Development Committee members, any staff placed in a management position during a school emergency incident response, office staff, school Counselors and Mental Health Professionals, SRO’s and law enforcement personnel involved in school safety and emergency response, Fire Agency and EMS staff, County or City Emergency Management Staff.
Workshop Synopsis:
The position of School Safety Specialist in every school district is mandated by the Nevada Revised Statutes, but in the 15 school districts that do not have a fulltime position for School Safety Specialist, it is performed as an ancillary duty to a district staff member who already has a fulltime job elsewhere in the district. The premise of this year’s workshop is the School Safety Specialist responsibilities are a team effort, and everyone in the district should understand the duties and operations involved in this position in order to maximize the effectiveness of school safety within the district. Each school district has a designated School Safety Specialist, but it is an unrealistic expectation for one person to perform the duties associated with this position properly as an ancillary duty. Multi-Agency participation in preparedness through coordinating the statutory responsibilities associated with the School Safety Specialist will maximize safe school culture and climate and assist in emergency response if a bad thing happens at a school. All workshop presentations and tabletop exercises will support this premise. A four-hour block of training on Day 1 of the workshop will be dedicated to the responsibilities of the School Safety Specialist under NRS 388.910, and how we can accomplish this together.
Presentations:
Presentations are still being finalized. An agenda with the list of presenters and presentations will be sent to each district’s School Safety Specialist, Superintendent, and the SRO Working Group for distribution by November 1, 2026. Some presenter names will be familiar to attendees from previous workshops, but all workshop presentations and tabletop exercises will be updated to reflect current events in school safety.
Registration:
Registration information will be announced by POOL PACT. The workshop will be capped at 50 attendees in order to allow for interactive tabletop exercises, so please register early to ensure your seat.
